Introduction

Mera Desh Mera Dharam (1973) marked the directorial debut of wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh, who also played the lead role alongside legendary actor Raj Kapoor and veteran performer Om Prakash. The ensemble cast included Meena Rai, Abhi Bhattacharya, Kamal Kapoor, and Ratan Aulakh in pivotal roles.
Set against the backdrop of the Bangladesh Liberation War (Mukti Joddho), the film tells the story of the idealistic son of an army officer who takes a stand against injustice and rises to lead his people toward freedom.
The film's music was composed and written by Prem Dhawan, featuring a memorable soundtrack that included songs like Luta Di Hasino Pe Jawani Luta Di, Bhula Raha Tera Vatan Lut Raha Tera Chaman, Lakho Ussey Salaam, and Matwali Raftar Qayamat Payal Ki Jhankar. The vocals were rendered by renowned singers Shaminder, Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle, and Usha Mangeshkar. Among them, Asha Bhosle's Ruk Jaao O Jaani Ruk Jaao became particularly popular.
While detailed box office data is scarce, it is often described as an underrated and rare patriotic film. Bold in its narrative and solid in execution, the film's stature was further elevated by the presence of Raj Kapoor.

मेरा देश मेरा धरम (1973) मशहूर पहलवान से अभिनेता बने दारा सिंह के निर्देशन में बनी पहली फ़िल्म थी। दारा सिंह इसमें मुख्य भूमिका भी निभा रह थे। उनके साथ इस फ़िल्म में दिग्गज अभिनेता राज कपूर और वरिष्ठ कलाकार ओम प्रकाश भी अभिनय कर रहे थे। फ़िल्म में अन्य प्रमुख भूमिकाओं में मीना राय, अभि भट्टाचार्य, कमल कपूर और रतन औलख जैसे कलाकार काम कर रहे थे।
यह फ़िल्म बांग्लादेश मुक्ति संग्राम (मुक्ति जुद्धो) को पृष्ठभूमि के बतौर इस्तेमाल करती है। फ़िल्म एक आदर्शवादी फ़ौजी अफ़सर के ऐसे दिलेर बेटे की कहानी कहती है जो अन्याय के खिलाफ़ उठ खड़ा होता है और अपने लोगों को स्वतंत्रता की राह पर लेकर जाने वाला नेतृत्वकर्ता बनता है।
इस फ़िल्म के लिए संगीत तैयार करने का और गीत लेखन का काम प्रेम धवन ने किया था। इस फ़िल्म के यादगार गानों में "लुटा दी हसीनों पे जवानी लुटा दी", "भुला रहा तेरा वतन लुट रहा तेरा चमन", "लाखों उसे सलाम" और "मतवाली रफ़्तार कयामत पायल की झंकार" जैसे गीत प्रमुख थे। इन गीतों को उस दौर के मशहूर गायकों जैसे शमिंदर, मन्ना डे, आशा भोंसले और उषा मंगेशकर ने अपनी आवाज़ें दी थीं। इनमें से आशा भोसले का गाया गीत "रुक जाओ ओ जानी रुक जाओ" विशेष रूप से लोकप्रिय हुआ।
