Lawrence of Arabia1962
Introduction
Body of Work
A spectacular epic, Lawrence of Arabia retells T. E. Lawrence's autobiographical account of his Arabian adventure. It is the story of a larger-than-life, idealistic adventurer, and a character-study of a compelling cult hero who is obsessed with Arabia. The film, with its magnificent and poetic imagery of the desert, conveys the complex life and exploits of an eccentric, desert loving Oxford-bred British Army officer/ Welsh cartographer (repeatedly referred to as an 'Englishman'), who unites the desert dwelling Arabian Bedouins against the Turks (allies of Germany) during the First World War. Lawrence's knowledge of the politics and culture of the Middle East allows him to organise the various Arab tribes to repel the enemies of the British.
