It's Only Talk2005
Introduction
Body of Work
It's Only Talk is a sensitive, low-key portrait of an emotionally unstable woman and the men in her life. Yuko is single, unemployed, in her mid-30s, with a critical dependence on medication prescribed for her manic depression. She is in various levels of involvement with four men: a cousin for whom she feels a real attraction; a taciturn young gangster who shares her depressive condition; a self-described pervert whom she encounters online; and an old college classmate with a political future, but an inability to relate to her romantically. One of these four men will provide her with the emotional transformation that she so desperately needs, but the answer isn't that simple. Hiroki leaves us with the message that true change must emanate from within.
