House No. 44 (1955), directed by M. K. Burman and produced by Dev Anand under his banner Navketan Films, starred Dev Anand and his newly married wife, Kalpana Kartik. The couple had tied the knot during the filming of their earlier collaboration, Taxi Driver.
The story follows Ashok (Dev Anand), a man working for the notorious gangster Sunder (Bhagwan Sinha). The two fall in love, and Nimmo urges Ashok to leave his criminal life behind and settle down with her. Burman with lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi, features popular songs like Hemant Kumar's rendering of Chup Hai Dharti Chup Hain Chand Sitaare, Lata's Phaili Hui Hain Sapnon Ki Baahein, and Teri Duniya Mein Jeene Se, also sung by Hemant Kumar are memorable till day.
