Body of Work

Hanoi-Winter 1946 focuses on the tragic history of Vietnam. In the winter of 1946, law-student Lam visits the office of President Ho Chi Minh. The President appoints Lam to the post of liaison to a high-ranking French government official. When the French army later provokes Vietnam by attacking a group of civilians at the opera house, Ho Chi Minh— depicted as an extremely quiet and patient man— negotiates with the French to gain independence through a peaceful solution. Certain factions of the French colonial system violently wreck the negotiations. In winter, Ho Chi Minh leaves Hanoi and begins an armed rebellion, which later led to an international war.
