Film TitleShatranj Ke Khilari (The Chess Players, Shatranj Ke Khiladi), 1977, India, English, Hindi, Urdu
Scene DescriptionGeneral Outram with his convoy including Captian Weston, arrive at the Nawab's palace for the final signing of the new treaty and the handing over of Awadh to the East India Company. General Outram expresses his will for the treaty to be signed within the next three days. The Nawab hands over his turban to the General with the defiance that the British Army can take over his pride but not his signatures on the treaty. Having been a puppet king uninvolved in the proceedings of his kingdom, the Nawab shows probably his last act of bravery in front of the British, not willing to let go of his kingdom and his people without putting up a fight.
