Dora-Heita2000
Introduction
Body of Work
Dora-heita is a samurai film written nearly 40 years ago by four great Japanese directors: Keisuke Kinoshita (Carmen Comes Home, Japan's first colour film), Masaki Kobayashi (Samurai Rebellion), Akira Kurosawa and Kon Ichikawa. However, it did not get made then, and it was only after the death of the first three that Kon Ichikawa took the screenplay and turned it into a film. Dora Heita (alley cat or playboy in Japanese) refers to the main character, Koheita Mochizuki, a samurai, sent to the most wicked province in the land, to be its magistrate. He boozes every night and parties every day, ruining his reputation and making enemies. But this is a ruse to clean up the corrupt and lawless province from the roots, and it ends in hilarious situations and awesome sword-fights.
