Dice2004
Introduction
Body of Work
Dice celebrates the liberation of womanhood from the clutches of a sick society. Sarhadi's protagonist Jasoda defies not only her husband who uses her to further his own materialistic interests, but also a regressive commune which advocates the sharing of a bride by two self-seeking men, in this case, blood-brothers. The director breaks the shackles of the myth of Draupadi, the wife of the five Pandav brothers of the Mahabharata who was stripped in a game of dice by her brothers-inlaw because her husbands put her on stake and lost the bet.
