Synopsis This is the story of Lakshmi, a seven year old girl, a seventh born. It is her journey. She arrives in a mango grove on the eve of vasant (spring). Raja Sahib buys her, much to chagrin of his father, for whom the act of retaining a little girl is abhorrent. Lakshmi is witness to 63 springs, including the fatal sixteenth. She is unable to put the sixteenth spring behind her to the very end. Her Life passes between victory and defeat, on the sharp edge of a sword. She endures much, sees the power of love and the love of power. The sacred texts maintain that every human being is a complex of two tendencies – devas what is noble – and the danavas – what is profligate. Raja Sahib manifests a benevolent and lordly attitude towards Lakshmi with whom he wishes to sport amorously. But only danav – a beast of a man – enters the garden. The film wrestles with these two tendencies...
