Children of Fire1990
Introduction
Body of Work
When filmmaker Mai Masri returned to her hometown of Nablus after a 14-year absence, she discovered a new generation of Palestinian fighters: the children of the Intifada. This award-winning documentary on the life of Palestinian children who shout and throw stones at Israeli soldiers, play war games together, and create childish paintings that are filled with the violent images that surround them — of their young friends and relatives who have lost their lives in the fight for their homeland — captures their courageous story on film and paints a daring portrait of the Palestinian uprising. This dramatic, bravely filmed and bold record of the uprising puts a human face on the movement. Children of Fire is still relevant today in understanding the history of the Palestinian struggle for self determination.
