Body of Work

Bhairavi is the eponymous heroine of the _lm, and bhairavi is also the name of a raga in Hindustani classical music. Suhail Tatari's _lm is about the musical legacy left behind by the renowned sitar player, Ustad Karimuddin Khan, who was Bhairavi's father and who had groomed his daughter to take on his mantle. He had also taken Nisar, a small boy from a poor family, under his wing. Nisar shows exceptional talent as a tabla player and practically grows up in Khansaheb's house. The two reticent young people are fond of each other but can hardly articulate their feelings. Then Shubhankar, a personable young man and Khansaheb's disciple, steps into the household and into Bhairavi's life… Bhairavi is a musical painting of one woman's life. Music is integral to the story - and is at the very base of the narrative - re_ecting its many moods and emotional upheavals.
