Introduction
Andaz, directed by Mehboob Khan, stands out as a milestone in Hindi cinema, bringing together the legendary Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in their only on-screen collaboration. महबूब खान द्वारा निर्देशित अंदाज़ भारतीय सिनेमा के इतिहास में इस मायने में एक यादगार फ़िल्म थी कि इसमें हिन्दी सिनेमा के दो सबसे लोकप्रिय सिनेमाई नायक दिलीप कुमार और राज कपूर पहली और आखिरी बार एक साथ पर्दे पर आये। यह फ़िल्म स्वतंत्रता के फ़ौरन बाद के दौर में भारत के संपन्न वर्ग का एक चित्र सिनेमा के पर्दे पर खींचती है और इस बहाने लोकप्रिय सिनेमा के व्यापक आम दर्शक समूह को पर्दे पर आधुनिक, शहरी जीवन शैली की एक दुर्लभ झलक देखने को मिलती है। फ़िल्म की कहानी पुरुष और स्त्री के बीच देह से परे के आध्यात्मिक प्रेम (प्लेटोनिक लव) से जुड़ी है जो उस समय के हिन्दी सिनेमा के लिए काफ़ी नई किस्म की अवधारणा थी। लेकिन फ़िल्म ऐसा करते हुए एक ख़ास तरह का नैतिकतावादी नज़रिया धारण किए रहती है और इस तरह के रिश्ते से पैदा होने वाले संभावित खतरों के प्रति आगाह करती है। यह सावधानी भरा नज़रिया एक ऐसे नव स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र की चिंताओं को दिखाता है जो आधुनिकता की ज़द में खड़ा पारम्परिक मूल्यों को बचाने की कोशिश में लगा है। भारत तेज़ी से बदल रहा है और यह परिवर्तन सांस्कृतिक स्तर पर उथल-पुथल मचाने वाला है। फ़िल्म में दिलीप कुमार के किरदार को मुकेश ने आवाज़ दी है, जबकि राज कपूर के गीतों को आवाज़ मोहम्मद रफ़ी ने दी है। फ़िल्म का यादगार संगीत नौशाद द्वारा रचित है। हालाँकि राज कपूर और नर्गिस इससे पहले भी फ़िल्म आग में साथ नज़र आ चुके थे, लेकिन अंदाज़ उनकी पहली बड़ी सफलता साबित हुई और आगे 14 फ़िल्मों तक चलनेवाली उनकी यादगार जोड़ी स्थापित हुई।
