Body of Work

Achu's Mother is about the intimate relationship between a mother and a daughter. Vanaja, a diligent and independent woman, works as an insurance agent. Her life is centered on her daughter, Achu, to whom she is both mother and friend. The whereabouts or identity of the father is unknown. Achu, a vivacious engineering student, is hunting for a job. She meets Ijo, a lawyer, and the two fall in love. But their hopes of getting married are dashed when Vanaja raises objections. How will Achu discover the truth about her origins and convince her mother about the man in her life? Achu's Mother portrays with humour the bonding between Vanaja and Achu. It looks at the complexities of growing up in a world where hidden truths reveal sacrifice and compassion.
