Agantuk (The Stranger), 1991, India, Bengali
Scene Description In the short interlude Raxit acts out a skit to entertain everyone. He is convinced that adda is a Bengali novelty, which Manmohan refutes. He recalls the Greek gymnasiums where exercise of the body and mind were equally important. Greek thinkers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle engaged in meaningful debate and informal discussions on politics, theology, philosophy and literature to a more fruitful degree than the modern Bengali can imagine. Manmohan knows he is the centre of interest and bluntly asks them what they think about him. The simple and unsaid answer is, one can never know a person in such a short exchange of words. Sudhindra and Anila are visibly embarrassed. (12/27)
