Scene Description Manmohan, superbly sustained by veteran actor Utpal Dutt, arrives at Anila's Calcutta house. The film surpasses every Ray film in terms of its verbosity. Manmohan, a name from the hundred and eight names of the Hindu god Krishna, establishes himself as a mouth-piece and auto-biographical double for Ray himself. He is a wanderlust. Seeing the thirty-thousand year old cave painting of the Bison of Alta Mira in a magazine during his college days, Manmohan was convinced that linear progress from primitive to the modern is a misconception of human history. There is nothing greater than that bison, that Manmohan can paint. So he must travel the world and unfold its secrets. (2/27)
