The Lalit Kala Akademi was founded by the Government of India on 5th August 1954 by the then Minister for Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The first edition of the Lalit Kala Contemporary Journal was published in June 1962. This illustrated journal features essays and articles on:
The journal aims to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on modern and contemporary art and to help readers, especially in India, to gain a fresh perspective on art, both national and international.
