The film is an adaptation of Raja Thakur's Marathi melodrama Mumbaicha Javai. A young girl, (Jaya Bhaduri) who is from a small town, is married into a middle-class family living in a typical Bombay flat. The newly weds have to live in cramped space, in a joint family, where moments of privacy are hard to come by.
